24 Hour Breakfast Noms at GoodAh!!!

Don't you just hate it when you've spotted an order on the menu that you really like and it's not available because it's on the breakfast menu and is only available until 11am? This happens to me a lot. I'm not a morning person and if I have no set schedule or appointment, I usually just stay at home all morning and start my day after noon.

Good Ah! in B.F. Paranaque is open 24 hours!

I am very happy to report that there are restaurants like GoodAh!!! where you can get a hearty Pinoy breakfast at any time of the day for cheap. Luckily, I live near one of those. On Saturdays (when I'm usually knocked out until about midday), I can easily head over to the GoodAh!!! at BF order good old Tocilog any time I want.

Tocilog (p72)

This right here is comfort food at its finest. The sweet, slightly salty, and tender pork tocino strips served with a cupful of warm garlic fried rice and an egg fried sunny side up fills you up in all the right places. Having tocino reminds me of home, wherever I'm at.

Tokwa't Baboy (p45)

Tokwa't baboy has also creeped its way into my heart. I didn't like this particular Pinoy side dish then (I liked the softer tofu better), but I now order it whenever available. Fried tokwa and pork cubes immersed in a soysauce-vinegar mix is a perfect side to any silog, imo.

Pares (p69)

If you're Pinoy, you'd surely be familiar with the Pares, a popular local dish of cubed beef pieces smothered in a cupful of sweet and tasty sauce. At GoodAh!!!, it's served as a rice topping and the sauce is thicker than those sold on the streets (street food version is still better).

It's nearly the weekend! I can have a feast of breakfast nomz at GoodAh!!! anytime tomorrow. If you decide to drop by, don't be surprised that this silog place has no airconditioning. There's ample parking space up front and the ambiance is clean and bright (it makes me feel like it's time for breakfast all day long). Have yourselves a fantastic weekend!

Satisfy Big Cravings at Big Plate

Another weekend has come and gone, I hope you guys all had a good one like I did. Here's one of the reasons why-

Lazy weekends are usually spent lounging around the house, watching downloaded tv series for the week, walking the pup to the park, and then forcing inviting some people to grab a bite to eat somewhere close by. And by "somewhere close", I mean somewhere along Presidents Avenue in BF. We usually just cruise along the street until we find a suitable place to stuff our faces.

Then we found this

One (really) hungry Saturday with no particular craving besides good food in large quantities, a newish restaurant next to Petron with a yellow green sign that said "Big Plate" caught our eye. The name sounded perfect for our grumbling tummies so we parked hastily and found ourselves a table inside the clean and comfy restaurant.

Party at Home With Contis!

My mom celebrated her 54th last weekend (she'll probably kill me if she knew I posted her age) with a small get-together at home with family and friends. What was supposed to be a birthday lunch at some restaurant in the city became an all-day impromptu party at our house. And because it was unplanned and we needed nomz for at least a dozen or so people on such short notice, we had to enlist the help of our trusty takeout resto- Conti's, forever to the rescue.

Conti's has always been a lifesaver in my household whenever there's no one to cook and there'd be guests in the house. You only need to call a day in advance and their ever reliable crew will have your orders ready when you want it. They deliver to your house if your total bill amounts to three thousand pesos or more and they also lend food warmers for a holdout of three hundred pesos per container (your deposit will be given back in full as soon as you return them).

Nothing Beats SEx on a Rainy Morning - A Sinangag Express Review

When the boyfriend asked me to go with him to get his new monitor from a store somewhere at BF Parañaque, I asked him if he knew where to find it. And when he said it was right next to Sinangag Express along Aguirre Street, I perked up right away. The thought of a warm sinangag meal on a rainy morning always cheers me up.

Sinangag Express, naughtily nicknamed SEx, is a commercialized tapsilogan with branches at select locations in different cities. There are two branches just in BF- the one along President's Avenue and the one we went to, along Aguirre Street.

The Menu

The dining area was dimly lit, which was fine because we were there in the morning when there was light outside. They also had no airconditioning, but the place was cool because it just rained and there was a light breeze. But the tables and chairs were nice and solid and didn't feel like a typical fast food joint.

For lunch, we ordered the classic Tapsilog (p60) and the mouth-watering Special Pares (p75). Let's start off with the-

Tapsilog

The classic Tapsi

Tapa + sinangag + itlog = a classic combination that will forever be a favorite. SEx's tapsilog is a delicious set, their tapa is nicely seasoned, the rice is soft and garlicky and the serving size is pretty good (bigger than Tapa King's). And it only costs 60 pesos a meal! Rating: 5/5

Special Pares

Enticed by the huge streamers outside with blown-up pictures, I ordered the Special Pares without looking at other menu choices. There was a pretty big bowl of soft sinangag rice topped with fried chopped garlic and onion that came with a smaller bowl of minced beef. The rice was good, soft and garlicky, just like sinangag should be.

The beef was soft but it was too stringy, I was expecting it to be served in chunks just like regular pares. It was also too sweet and a tad too oily and it didn't have that sesame seed-y taste that I associate with pares. Perhaps it was because I expecting it to taste differently that I didn't like the dish so much. Rating: 3.5/5

All in all, it was still a nice visit at Sinangag Express. Good food, cheap prices, big servings, friendly staff, clean environment. Sums up to a pretty good dining experience for me.
